How to use firestick at rental property password#
I don't know if there's a way to restrict access to just a few apps on the Firestick and password protect the ability to add other stuff? If there was, that would be a pretty good way to limit it to a few apps and avoid a lot of confusion. Which might or might not be a problem, but it could get confusing. But if they want to get into accessing some of their home content through some of the other apps, they could probably do that but I could easily see them forgetting to "UN-sign" for those apps before they leave, giving the next renter access to all of that content. That should be pretty easy and should work fine. Either you give them access to your accounts as part of the rental or just let them sign into their own Netlix, Prime, etc account so they can use it as they're accustomed to. But stuff like Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu, should be easy enough. If we were renters for a week and the Firesticks weren't ours with our own content accessible through them, THAT part of it might not work well for a weekly rental.
This works well for us, BUT, we're there for three months so whatever reinitializing of apps and signing on to our home access through something like HBO Now or whatever the Showtime equivalent is a minor PIA during the first week, but then runs pretty seamlessly. So I bring two Firesticks with us each winter (one per TV) and that gets us access to most of the content we're already paying for at home, outside of local news and stuff, but that's OK - we're not there anyway. We're still paying for our cable at home, which includes HBO, Showtime, ESPN, etc. They get cable, but a really limited package.
We've had the same place for four years now. We rent a condo on the North Carolina coast every winter - our daughter lives nearby so we get to spend a lot of time with her and we're right on the beach and it's relatively warmer. I've had experience with it from somewhere between the landlord's and renter's perspective because we use it for three months each year. I found some discussion on some AirB&B forums but not much. I'm not even sure if that is possible, does anyone know?
I can enter a Parental Control requiring a PIN to purchase paid content, but I would just as soon not give them access to my Amazon Prime account, if this makes sense. But I'm unclear about the whole Amazon part of it, being an Amazon device. I know I can sign out of Netflix, Apple TV, and Disney+ and let them enter their own credentials if they want to use those apps. What I'm trying to understand is whether, for a rental property, I can avoid tenants having to use my own Amazon account to access any movies or other available content. Hopefully the summer tenants will be able to figure out these devices if they have not used them previously, and I intend to leave basic instructions. I have new Amazon 4K Fire Sticks operating the two older (not smart) HDTVs. I thought I might need to add something like Hulu Live or YouTube TV, but I'm pretty amazed at how much live content is available from major networks and some major cable channels, or apps like Locast. With no sports in sight, I'm hoping that this won't be an issue. This year, we've added 300 mpbs internet for the summer and will not be bothering with regular cable TV.
